From a physical object to a digital material
At INVOLV3D, we work on digitizing objects and surfaces. Geometry is one part of the task; how a material responds to light matters too. Our work brings together image acquisition, 3D reconstruction and surface-property analysis.
Photogrammetry reconstructs geometry from photographs taken from different viewpoints. Photometric data helps describe surfaces as PBR materials that can be viewed under different lighting. Structured light is another direction being developed in the scanning systems.
My responsibilities
As co-founder and CTO, I am responsible for electronics, software and system architecture. That includes selecting technologies for the task, integrating hardware and software, and identifying problems early enough to address them during development.
I am interested in the complete process: acquiring data, managing it and producing a result that can be used in the next stage of work. Hardware choices affect the software, while the processing pipeline determines what the acquisition system needs to capture.
What we are working on
- sigmaPBR processes supported photometric data into PBR material maps. Its product page compares a photogrammetric texture with the processed material.
- A robotic 3D scanner is in development, combining scanning methods, automatic path planning and data acquisition for geometry and materials.
- Object and material digitization puts scanning into practice, with real objects presented in the company gallery.
Where to see the results
The INVOLV3D gallery shows scanned objects. The sigmaPBR page compares material-processing results and describes evaluation with your own data. The company website provides the status of devices in development and the current service offering.
